Spartacus was a premium historical series which was proposed to launch on 22nd January 2010. This was a series with thirteen episodes and its second session will be commencing in 2011. The story was focused on slavery which was prevalent in Rome in ancient times. The series points out the harassment and miseries suffered by slaves there. Spartacus was the leader of slaves and the series highlights his ventures to uplift slaves from difficulties. He had led a slave uprising movement against the Roman Republic from 73 to 71 BC. His fight was against the slave owning aristocracy of Roman Empire. His attempt to overthrow Roman Dynasty had given new type of inspiration to writers and politicians to a great deal. Before this series little was known about him. But, after the series he became a cultural hero of ancient and modern Rome. The show had rated by the sensor board for strong violence, encounters, coarse language and sexual content. The executive producers of the series were Steffen S. De Knight and Robert Tapert who succeeded in bringing the historical events of Spartacus for the awareness of the global people.

Spartacus is brought to Rome with an intention to assist Roman army at the beginning. But he is condemned to slavery in later periods. He trained from gladiatorial school and in BC 73 he was one among them plotting an escape. The plot was failed totally by betrayal. But 70 of them took kitchen implements and freed themselves from school. Then they captured gladiatorial weapons and armor and defeated a small force sent after them. They recruited more slaves to their groups and became capable to defend themselves. They chose Spartacus and two other slaves as their leaders. Thus, the Romans believed that the slaves are homogeneous groups with Spartacus their leader. This organization of slaves forced the Romans to reshuffle their military leaderships by bringing the slave leaders to the subordinate positions. In this historical series Andy Whitefield has acted as the Spartacus. Horrific tooth and nail fighting is the main feature of this series. Hence there is tremendous blood shed in the series throughout. That is why the series has been highlighted by the name ‘ blood and sand ‘ even though the name of the series was Spartacus.

The great warrior could once again come to this world and make the new generation aware about his stories through the series ‘blood and sand’. Andy Whitefield acted incredibly to keep justice to the hero Spartacus. His furious acting is still in the minds of people of the world. Regarding his acting Andy Whitefield said that he never wanted to loose expectation of people on him and if he spoiled the episode the people who recognized him would be unhappy. He had predicted in advance that the series would be a mega monster hit. On analyzing the series we can see that his prediction was absolutely true. The script and stories behind it was very great, excellent direction, wonderful characters, superb acting and a serious theme. Moreover it was a different historical series which people could enjoy and recognize. All these remarkable features made this series a favorable entertainer.
